This is my lil grand heir…he just got his first magnifying glass from a preschool class at church. I was trying to show him how to leave one eye open and the other closed in order for the magnifying glass to be effective. As you see by this picture….he didn’t quite catch on. He kept thinking by closing one eye on his right, he wouldn’t be able to see what was left…oh wait, I mean on his left….or did I?.

Some of us suffer the same consequence…our futures can’t be magnified before us because we are too afraid to close an eye to what’s on the side of us so we can focus straight ahead. What do you need to close an eye to?

Had the opportunity be a corporate sponsor for Life Remodeled and the rejuvenation of a local high school and it’s surrounding neighborhood. Lifechanging.

The new 2015 Lincoln MKC…it’s on my short list for my new car. Elegant, sleek, luxurious without being being old and stodgy…crossover…not quite truck…not quite car..rides smooth and still exclusive and not too popular.

At our executive leadership retreat in Nashville. Great opportunity to lead by example…Even in the retreat, there was a lot of work, a lot of brainstorming and team building BUT we also took the time to unwind, relax and just enjoy each other’s company. Balance is KEY. Work hard…BUT take time to unplug and relax…your mind is clearer and developing relationships is just as important as staying up all night working on a proposal. Value time AWAY from the grind as time crucial to grind success!

In order to step to the next level, you have to let go of where you are. Sometimes in that transition you may not feel stable….but pull up and keep climbing. Faith requires taking steps when you can’t see where you are going. (Photo credit: Instagram)

Was talking about this just the other day…at some point…you MUST take (taking requires action) responsibility for what you have done, or not done. Pointing fingers, blaming others, dipping and dodging is for children. Grown ups own their issues and work to reconcile them. As a a leader don’t allow your team to shift blame or sweep problems off to others …hold them accountable and lead by example. Questions like how do I fix this? Or how can I make it up to you require maturity.

Consider this dialogue from transformers 4 between two good guys (auto bots) about their leader…Optimus…

Crosshairs: [to Drift] You just want to die for the guy …That’s leadership. Or brainwashing or something.

Drift: No. That’s Optimus Prime.

Me: no that IS leadership.

A leader who’s conviction is so strong, who has wisdom so vast, who sets vision higher than you can see and who sacrifices themselves for what’s right more often than not…usually ends up a leader that you would go ” over a cliff for”. THAT is the type of leader that I am seeking to follow AND to become.
